FAQs

I’m nervous. Is that normal?

Absolutely. It can be difficult to open up to someone about your life and to say things out loud that you usually wouldn’t. I hope to make you feel as reassured as possible that this is a safe space to be yourself and to experience all of your emotions, nervousness included!

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required really depends on your reasons for seeking therapy, how severe those issues are, what your desired outcome is and how deeply you want to explore things. I can work both short term (4-8 weeks), long term or on an open-ended basis with regular reviews.

What can I expect during the first session?

To build a collaborative relationship together and begin to work on your reasons for therapy, the first session will be about exploring your reasons, your situation and getting to know you. I don’t seek to assess you, diagnose, or label you in any way. But instead, begin to identify the parts of you and your circumstances that are most important to you to explore.

What if I can’t do every week?

Weekly therapy sessions aren’t always possible for everyone. Maybe you work a different shift pattern each week, or maybe fortnightly sessions is more suited to your schedule or budget. Please bring your requirements to our initial consultation for us to discuss further.

How do I know you are right for me?

Take your time to have a thorough look through my website and perhaps jot down any specific questions you may want to ask me during the free consultation. It is important that you find someone with whom you feel at ease with, and whilst I hope to be that for you, you may find my approach doesn’t suit you. I’m fortunate to know several wonderful therapists and I would be happy to offer you suggestions, if I believe I know someone more suited to your needs.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, what you share with me in counselling is completely confidential. However I am legally bound to report a few specific disclosures, such as anything to do an act of terror, or imminent danger to yourself or someone else.
